Clinical Hypnosis
Clinical hypnosis is a focused, absorbed state of attention that may support psychological and emotional change.
Despite common misconceptions, hypnosis is not about losing control, being unconscious, or “having something done” to you. Most people remain fully aware throughout. Many describe it as a state of settled focus, increased absorption, or temporary relief from the usual noise of thinking.
In clinical practice, hypnosis can be used alongside thoughtful conversation to help people work with persistent patterns that may be difficult to shift through insight or effort alone.
This may include experiences such as anxiety, overthinking, difficulty switching off, disrupted sleep, stress-related symptoms, health anxiety, confidence difficulties, habits, or feeling persistently stuck despite understanding the problem intellectually.
A medically informed approach
As a medically qualified doctor with over 25 years of experience in one-to-one work, Dr Emma Rae Rhead brings both clinical understanding and psychological depth to this work.
Clinical hypnosis is not approached as entertainment, suggestion, or quick-fix symptom removal, but as part of a thoughtful and collaborative process of understanding patterns and creating change.
For some people, hypnosis can help create the conditions for the nervous system and mind to settle. For others, it may support new perspectives, emotional flexibility, or movement where people have felt stuck.
Every person responds differently and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Experiences vary considerably.
Some people feel deeply relaxed. Others feel calm, absorbed, mentally quieter, or simply more focused. Some notice very little physically at all.
There is no “correct” way to experience hypnosis, and useful work can occur without dramatic experiences or feeling completely relaxed.
Online clinical hypnosis
Sessions are offered online via Zoom and can be undertaken from the comfort and familiarity of home.
Many people are surprised by how effective online hypnosis can feel. Being in a familiar environment can sometimes make it easier to settle and engage with the process.
A quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection are usually all that is needed.
Is hypnosis right for everyone?
Not always.
Clinical hypnosis may not be suitable for everyone or every situation. Where appropriate, suitability can be discussed before beginning work together.
This service is not designed for crisis support, severe mental illness, or situations requiring urgent or intensive care.
A calm, collaborative process
People who seek this work are often thoughtful, capable, and functioning outwardly, yet inwardly exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious, unable to switch off, or caught in patterns that have not shifted despite considerable effort.
Clinical hypnosis is offered as a thoughtful, medically informed approach for people seeking a different way of working with persistent difficulties.
